Commissioner-designate for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality Jourová is one of the candidates in the Juncker team that failed to convince during the hearings in the European Parliament last week. While Jourová – according to the MEPs – showed the aptitude and professional experience appropriate for a Commissioner, they expected more precise commitments from Jourová on specific files such as consumer protection, trafficking in human beings or gender equality. Also, on data protection and internet issues, Jourová did not give very specific answers to MEPs’ questions, saying that NSA and Safe Habour were one of the most complex issues she had ever encountered. The LIBE, FEMM, IMCO and JURI committees of the Parliament therefore decided that Jourová would need to answer further written questions in order to complete their evaluation.
