Electric Vehicles: Charging ahead or stuck in the slow lane?

There is a broad consensus across industry and Parliament that there is an electric vehicle (EV) revolution is underway in the UK; indeed, as part of its ‘Road to Zero’ plan, the Government recently set out its ambition to see at least half of all new cars sold in the UK to be hybrid or electric by 2030. In this context, the Government is working to ensure that the necessary infrastructure is in place to support the anticipated large-scale uptake of EVs; in part through the Automated and Electric Vehicles Bill, which is poised to become law.

In this piece we explore the provisions of the Automated and Electric Vehicles Bill, alongside its limitations, and assess what further steps need to be taken in order to secure the UK’s position as a world leader in the rollout of EVs.
