Julie Stone

Julie Stone is a leading policy advisor in the health sector covering regulation, law, ethics, education and standard-setting. Most recently, Julie Stone was the Deputy Director of the Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence - 2003 to 2006 - where she was responsible for design and implementation of regulatory change across the UK’s statutory healthcare sector, and regularly advised Department of Health Ministers. She has published numerous books, articles and reports on healthcare regulation, law, and ethics, and, most recently, sexual boundaries between health professionals and patients. Julie Stone is a non-Executive Director of a PCT in England and contributed to a Department of Health project on PCT list management powers. She has previously been appointed by the Secretary of State for Health as a lay member of the NHS complaints panel and member of a multi-centre research ethics committee. Currently she is a member of the British Psychological Society Ethics Committee (2007-) and the Clinical Disputes Forum Committee (2005-). She is a Visiting Professor of professional ethics and regularly undertakes keynote lectures internationally, speaking on regulation, medico-legal issues, research ethics, and the professionalisation and regulation of psychotherapy and Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). She is author of the ‘Stone Report’ on Federal Voluntary Structure for Regulation of CAM, and has advised the Government on numerous healthcare Inquiries including Kerr/Haslam, Bichard, and, most recently, the Foster and CMO reports, which culminated in the 2007 White Paper on regulation of health professionals. Julie Stone is an experienced healthcare policy maker with an in-depth knowledge of healthcare legislation. She is able to advise on Government consultations, Healthcare organisations, standards setting, and healthcare developments.
